Seren Care regularly commissions Professional Development and Training at Children in Wales to deliver a wide range of in person training to their residential and support staff. Over time, this has developed into an ongoing partnership supporting workforce development across multiple subject areas.
Courses delivered include ACE, Trauma and Resilience, Child Development, County Lines and Child Sexual Exploitation, Supporting LGBTQ+ Young People, Understanding Self Harm and Suicide, Young People and Substance Misuse and Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each session is contextualised to residential care settings, with opportunities for staff to reflect on real practice situations and explore trauma informed responses.
Our approach blends clear theory, practical tools and structured discussion. Sessions are interactive, encouraging staff to consider how knowledge translates into day-to-day care planning, risk management and relationship building with young people.
This sustained programme reflects Seren Care’s commitment to continuous professional development. By commissioning multiple topics across the year, they ensure staff confidence remains high and practice remains current.

ACE and Trauma training delivered by Professional Development and Training at Children in Wales is frequently commissioned by organisations seeking to embed trauma informed approaches across their services. Recent commissions have included work with teams in Cardiff Council and Carmarthenshire County Council, as well as organisations such as Seren Care and Hafod Housing.
Delivered in person, the course explores the impact of adverse childhood experiences, attachment, neurobiology and resilience, with a strong emphasis on practical application.
Sessions are designed to be accessible, well-paced and reflective. We balance concise theory input with small group discussion, case examples and structured activities that encourage practitioners to consider how trauma may present in behaviour and engagement.
Recent feedback from participants attending a session commissioned by Seren Care highlights the clarity and relevance of the training:
“Excellent course, very informative. Well-paced and applicable to practice.”
“Short and sweet training session with a good balance between group work and slide show. Very knowledgeable instructor.”
“The trainer was very informative providing me with a host of knowledge which will help me understand and work with the children.”
Participants consistently report increased confidence in recognising trauma responses and adapting their communication style accordingly. The training supports teams to move beyond behaviour management towards curiosity, empathy and regulation focused strategies.
