About Brain Power
Brain Power: Pŵer yr Ymennydd aims to explore neurodivergent children and young people's experiences of support and access to neurodevelopmental services, including what is working well, what could be improved and what needs to change. Funded by Welsh Government until Spring 2027 the project has two opportunities:
- An advisory group for 11-25 year olds living in Wales meeting up regularly to work on specific projects such as creating a video for professionals and supporting the Welsh Governments 10 year Neurodivergence Improvement Programme.
- Workshops in schools giving neurodivergent children and young people opportunities to share their experiences and views.
Through creative, tailored and accessible workshops, children and young people will be supported to share their ideas, views and experiences in ways that work best for them. The project focuses on meaningful participation, ensuring learners feel listened to, respected and empowered to take part at their own pace.
Who is the project for?
The project is designed for neurodivergent children and young people, with participation tailored to individual needs, preferences and communication styles.

For schools:
We are looking to engage learners through one-off focus groups in English and Welsh-medium settings. These will include:
- Non-speaking learners in primary and secondary settings
- Children aged 4 to 10 in English and Welsh-medium settings
How will young people be involved?
Participants will take part in one-off, creative and accessible workshops using play-based and participatory approaches.
Sessions will be tailored to the learners taking part, allowing them to participate at their own pace and in ways that suit them.
Young people will have opportunities to:
- Connect with others
- Share their experiences and ideas
- Explore issues that matter to them
- Help influence decisions, services and support
Influencing change
The views and experiences shared through Brain Power will help identify what is working well, where improvements are needed and what needs to change.
This insight will help inform policy, services and support for neurodivergent children and young people across Wales.
The project builds on Children in Wales' successful work with learners through the Additional Learning Needs Ambassadors Programme, which Welsh Government recognised as helping to ensure children and young people's voices are heard in shaping policy and practice. Get involved
We are looking to work with schools, organisations and partners who can help promote the opportunity and refer children and young people who may benefit from taking part.
Sessions will take place in schools during the Autumn 2026 term.
