The first 1,000 days of a baby’s life lay critical foundations for physical, emotional, and social development, with lasting implications for wellbeing. In 2024, Children in Wales submitted its “baby voice” response to the Welsh Government’s draft mental health strategy, highlighting the need for stronger early intervention, improved support for parent–infant relationships, and equitable access to specialist services. This briefing reiterates those priorities and sets out the Pledge for Babies in Wales as a framework for ensuring babies are listened to, supported and protected.
