Ahead of the 2025 election, Plaid Cymru published a roadmap setting out its priorities for the first 100 days of government. As this milestone approaches on 15 August, Children in Wales has developed a briefing that provides an overview of the key developments and progress made against the new Welsh Government's stated aims and commitments during its first 100 days. It also considers what these developments may mean for babies, children and young people across Wales.
The briefing highlights a strong early focus on issues affecting children and families, including child poverty, childcare, education, preventative health and children’s rights. It also considers key developments within the Senedd, including the establishment of a new Early Years, Children, Young People and Education Committee to scrutinise decisions affecting children and young people.
The briefing also explores progress on areas including the development of a new Child Poverty Strategy, plans for a Welsh Child Payment scheme (Cynnal), expansion of funded childcare, the rollout of free school meals, and the Welsh Government’s commitment to further incorporate the UNCRC into Welsh law.
While recognising positive developments, Children in Wales will continue to advocate for ambitious action, including clear targets and accountability measures to ensure commitments translate into meaningful improvements in the lives of babies, children and young people across Wales.
