The Pledge for Babies, developed by Children in Wales in partnership with Swansea University, is a commitment to recognising and responding to babies’ voices, rights and needs from the very start of life.
Co-produced with parents, carers, professionals and informed by babies themselves, the Pledge is grounded in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and focuses on the crucial first 1,000 days. It highlights what babies need to feel safe, valued and nurtured, while also recognising that some families will require more support than others.
The Pledge encourages everyone - from parents and carers to practitioners, services and decision-makers - to listen to babies and consider their needs in everyday care, community planning and policy decisions.
The animation above brings the Pledge to life, sharing the voice of the baby and reminding us that when babies thrive, families, communities - and Wales as a whole - thrive too.
