Getting Ready Project: Resources
The Getting Ready project, a collaboration between Children in Wales and Voices from Care Cymru, is supported by funding from the Welsh Government’s Suitable Provision and Support Innovation Fund.
In partnership with Newport City Council, care-experienced young people, foster carers and local professionals, we are pleased to launch a brand-new Padlet for the Newport local authority in both English and Welsh (Prosiect Paratoi: Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd). This resource, launching on 19 June, has been co-created alongside the very young people it serves and is tailored to support those preparing for independent living across Newport and Cwmbran.
The Newport Padlet offers comprehensive, locally relevant information covering:
- Independent living support (e.g., food shopping tips)
- Financial management (e.g., budgeting, bank accounts, savings)
-
Employment and careers guidance (e.g. applying for jobs)
-
Education and training (e.g., bursaries support)
-
Wellbeing and emotional support (e.g., local groups)
This versatile toolkit will be featured across our social media channels to reach the widest possible audience, and we welcome inclusion in ebriefings to inform stakeholders and practitioners across Wales.
A foster carer at Newport local authority said:
"The Padlet and the Getting Ready Project have given us loads of helpful information and answers we’d been looking for for ages, especially around education entitlements."
This timely launch will ensure that care-experienced young people, foster carers and professionals in Newport and Cwmbran have direct access to all the key advice and support they need in a single, easy-to-use platform.
