The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Children in Wales (CIW), developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

As the board are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of CIW, they are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of individuals, including: service users, members, funders, the Charity Commission and Companies House. Close attention must be given to the governing document to ascertain the type of organisational structure and the range of interested parties.

All current members of Children in Wales are eligible to be nominated or stand for election to the Trustee Board, and are able to vote. Members of the Trustee Board must be part of the Children in Wales Membership for their time on the board. Once elected, the term of office is 3 years, with the potential to renew once. After 2 terms, there must be a break of at least 2 years before being eligible to stand for election again.
