In May 2023, the UK and devolved governments will attend an examination by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child on their progress in implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  This will result in a series of recommendations (Concluding Observations) expected in June 2023.

Ahead of the examination, Children in Wales, with our partners in the Wales UNCRC Monitoring Group have completed a number of activities, which include

  • Published our Wales Civil Society Report to inform the UN Committee’s List of Issues Prior to Reporting (December 2020)
  • Provided comments to inform the draft versions of the UK Government State Party Report and the Welsh Governments Report. (Summer 2022)
  • Published our State of Children’s Rights Report as the ‘alternative’ report on behalf of civil society organisations in Wales.

We have also collaborated with other UK child rights alliances to publish UK-wide reports (January 2021 and 2023) and engaged with the United Nations on our reports through the Pre-Session stage (February 2023)
