UK Government publishes consultation on Online Harms White Paper, 08/04/2019 [W/E/S/N.I.]

The UK Government has published a white paper on the measures that it is proposing to keep UK citizens safe online.

The white paper, called ‘Online Harms’ aims to create safety regulations that will keep vulnerable people, including children, safe online, while allowing businesses to grow online.

The proposals include a ‘duty of care’ towards users for online companies, which will be overseen and enforced by a new independent regulator.

Companies will be expected to deal with online harms, from illegal activity to harmful activity which isn’t necessarily illegal, and will be held accountable when they fail to do so.

The consultation closes on 01 July 2019.

You can find out more, as well as respond to the consultation on the UK Government website.
