Stage 1 of the Children (Abolition of the Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Bill: Responding to the call for written evidence

Children in Wales has submitted a response to the National Assembly for Wales consultation into the Children (Abolition of the Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Bill.

The Children, Young People and Education Committee held an inquiry at Stage 1 of the scrutiny process, looking into the general principles of the Bill.

Our response supported the Bill and stated that the change in the law is overdue, as children are currently do not have equal protection under the law against assault and battery as adults to. The change in the law will make it clear that physical punishment is not acceptable, and will encourage more positive parenting methods, and well being in line with children’s rights.
