Secure accommodation and placements of children out of area

The Welsh Government is seeking views on amendments to regulations made under the Social Services and Well-Being (Wales) Act 2014, through a consultation on secure accommodation and placements of children out of area.

The proposals change local authorities’ duties in relation to cross-border placements in secure accommodation, as well as other out of area placements for looked after children.

The changes amend the notifications of emergency placements out of area in the Care Planning, Placement and Case Review (Wales) Regulations 2015, the Secure Accommodation (Wales ) Regulations 2015 in respect of children placed in Scotland, and Part 6 of the Code of Practice (Looked After and Accommodated Children).

The consultation closes on the 27 November 2017.

The consultation documents are available on the Welsh Government website, where you can also respond.
