National rough sleeping count, 04/02/16 [W]

The Welsh Government has produced the first in a series of annual releases of homelessness statistics for Wales.

The report is based on the national rough sleeper monitoring exercise, which local authorities first carried out in November 2015 in partnership with local agencies. The aim of the exercise was to gauge the extent of rough sleeping across Wales, with a one night snap shot count following on from the two week information gathering exercise.

Local authorities estimate that 240 persons were sleeping rough across Wales during the two week period in November 2015. During the night of the snap shot count 82 individuals were observed to be sleeping rough, when 11% of emergency beds for rough sleepers were left vacant.
