Inquiry into devolution of welfare benefits, 19/03/2019 [W]

The National Assembly for Wales Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee has opened an inquiry into the potential devolution to welfare benefits in Wales.

The committee would like to hear arguments for and against the devolution of welfare benefits, lessons from devolution of social security powers to Scotland, and practical considerations, like financial implications or how a devolved system would integrate with a non-devolved benefits system.

The committee would also like considerations on different forms of devolution, for example flexibility in Universal Credit delivery, devolution of specific benefits, or creation of new benefits.

The Committee’s consultation will close on the 11 April 2019.

More information and opportunities to respond to the consultation are available on the National Assembly for Wales website.
