Estyn publish thematic report into provision for secondary school aged Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children, 03/04/2019 [W]

The Welsh schools inspectorate, Estyn, has published its thematic report into the secondary school provision for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) children in Wales.

In 2017, the Children, Young People and Education Committee of the National Assembly for Wales recommended that the Welsh Government ask Estyn to undertake a thematic review of education provision for GRT children, updating their last report in 2011, and taking into account changes in funding.

The report makes a number of recommendations on several areas, including improving anti-bullying and equality practices by promoting GRT culture through the curriculum, ensuring that GRT pupils have opportunities to express their views about their learning experiences and collaborative working. They also recommend that the Welsh Government update their existing guidance.
