Estyn: Federated Schools – Common features of effective federation, 02/07/2019 [W]

Schools inspectorate, Estyn, has published a thematic report into school federation. The report looked at successful federated schools and identified common features.

It also examined the possible problems with federation and why some federations fail.

The report makes twelve recommendations. The main recommendations for schools include having a clear leadership structure for the federation, and time for senior leaders at the schools to communicate with each other.

The recommendations to local authorities and regional consortia and Welsh Government both include allowing federated schools to pool resources more easily.

The thematic report is available on the Estyn website.
