Children’s Commissioner for Wales: A Charter for Change, 03/01/2019 [W]

The Children’s Commissioner for Wales has released her report into poverty in Wales, outlining practical steps the Welsh Government could take in order to tackle poverty in Wales.

The report includes the views of hundreds of children and parents across Wales.

The report calls for the Welsh Government to produce and publish a new ‘Child Poverty Delivery Plan’, describing how the Government will address the poverty issues faced by families.

It makes ten recommendations all together, including:

  • Making more children eligible for free school meals,
  • Giving more children access to Holiday Hunger schemes
  • Making more families eligible for a grant to spend on school costs such as uniform and equipment
  • Making sure school uniform polices across Wales are affordable, flexible, and fair

You can read the rest of the recommendations and the report in full, on the Children’s Commissioner for Wales’ website here.
