Child Poverty Action Group: The Cost of a Child in 2018, 20/08/2018 [W/E/S/N.I.]
21.08.18
The Child Poverty Action Group has published their annual research into the cost of raising children to age 18.
The overall cost of a child, (including rent and childcare), is £150,753 for a couple and £183,335 for a lone parent.
The cost is based on what the public thinks is a minimum standard and living, and takes into account things like food, clothing and heating bills, as well as modest items required for social participation, such as birthday presents and a week’s self-catering holiday in the UK once a year.
CPAG say that a combination of factors is making life harder on families, and that even families with two parents currently working full time on the ’national living wage’ are 11% short of the income the public defines as an acceptable, no-frills living standard.
