Carers’ Rights Day 2016, 25/11/16 [W]

Rebecca Evans AM, Minister for Social Services and Public Health, has made a statement reiterating Welsh Government’s commitment to supporting carers.

Carers provide invaluable, unpaid care to some of the most vulnerable people in Welsh communities. Welsh Government has introduced several frameworks to support and improve the lives of carers over recent years. Under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, carers have, for the first time, an equal right to assessment and support as those they care for.

The Carers’ Strategy is currently being refreshed to reflect these changes and identify key priority areas and actions. The strategy will be developed in partnership with carers’ networks, organisations and carers themselves to build a sense of joint ownership and to capture the issues that matter.
