A Carer Friendly Wales

On Carer’s Rights Day (24 November 2017), Minister for Children and Social Care, Huw Irranca- Davies, announced £1 million in 2018/19 for local health board to enhance the lives of carers.

The Minister thanked unpaid carers and the people and organisations that support them for the work that they do. “Unpaid carers of all ages are a valued and valuable part of society,” the statement said.

The Social Services and Well-Being (Wales) Act gives carers an equal right to have their needs assessed as those they care for, the Minister said.

As part of continued consultation with carers and their representatives, three priorities have been identified.

The three national priorities are to support a life for carers alongside caring, identifying and recognising carers, so that that they can access support, and providing information and assistance to carers.

The Minister announced the creation of a Ministerial Advisory Group to engage with stakeholders, and the allocation of a fund for national approaches to meeting the priorities.
