Financial Capability Project – Talk, Learn, Do: Parents, Kids and Money
Talk, Learn, Do: Parents, Kids and Money is a flagship project set up in Wales with the aim of exploring whether integrating financial education into existing parenting programmes will improve financial capability for families, parents, carers and children aged from 3 to 11.
Since September 2015 the Money Advice Service has jointly worked with the Welsh Government, Big Lottery Fund, and Children in Wales to deliver Talk, Learn, Do. The appetite for financial capability training meant delivery quickly spread to every local authority in Wales thanks to the efforts of our key partners Children in Wales, Family Links and Incredible Years. The project reached over a thousand parents, was supported by 52 partners and trained 150 practitioners in project delivery.
Direct delivery of Talk, Learn Do ended in April 2017 along with the coordination of the project by Children in Wales. The final results of the pilot are due in the summer of 2018 and the Money Advice Service will publicise these once they’re available.
The Money Advice Service will continue to work closely with delivery partners and look towards securing a legacy by:
- Using feedback from the TLD programme to inform the Wales Financial Inclusion Action Plan and feed into the National Advice Network
- Maintain strong links with partners and share the evaluation findings in 2018
- Make publicly available and actively promote resources developed for the pilot
- Work to support financial capability as a constituent part of parenting programmes and settings where most needed and can have most impact
