Accident Prevention
Accidental injuries are a leading cause of death for children and young people in Wales. In fact, every year, over 145,000 children and young people attend emergency departments because of an unintentional injury.
Children in Wales aims to reduce this toll by addressing accident prevention in all locations, including at home, on the road, around water, in childcare settings and at school. Our work in accident prevention recognises the need for children to experience risk as part of their development, our aim is therefore, not to reduce all accidents, but to focus on those that cause fatal, serious and disabling injuries.
Children in Wales has supported accident prevention work for a number of years.
We support and work closely with local and national policy makers, managers and practitioners across Wales to reduce the number of children and young people injured through accidents every year.
