Conference to look at the role of the third sector in creating resilient communities, 16/01/17 [W]

On 18 January, experts and professionals will come together at a conference run by Children in Wales to look at the important role of the third sector in creating prosperous, child friendly communities in Wales. It will also allow for third sector organisations to share their expertise as well as the challenges they currently face.

The announcement from Carl Sargeant AM, Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children in October 2016 regarding a new approach to building resilient communities, including creating children’s zones and boosting prosperity provides a context for the event.

The conference, which will be held in Cardiff, will offer delegates the chance to hear from speakers including Dr David Williams, Divisional Director of the Family and Therapies Division in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Advisor to the Welsh Government on child and adolescent mental health, and Professor Graham Donaldson, author of Successful Futures, the Independent Review of Curriculum and Assessment Arrangements in Wales.

This will be followed by workshops and a chance to attend or present in the exhibition area and to exchange views and network.

Catriona Williams OBE, Chief Executive of Children in Wales says: “There is a huge range of early intervention and preventative expertise and experience held in third sector organisations in Wales. It is crucial that this is recognised as a major contribution towards developing sustainable services to improve the well-being of children and young people in Wales.”
