Youth Contract scheme launched, 02/04/12 [W/E/S]

The UK Government has launched its new Youth Contract scheme which aims to tackle youth unemployment.

Funding has been made available as a ‘wage incentive’ for businesses to employ a young person in a job lasting at least 26 weeks. Businesses will be paid £2,275 for a job of 30 hours or more per week.

The aim of the scheme is to eventually get unskilled young people currently not employed into ongoing work or training. Money will be made available to the Welsh Government on aspects of the programme which are England only but much of this programme will be delivered UK wide.

Full details are available on the Department for Work and Pensions website.
