How should we measure the physical activity of children in Wales? 11/06/2019 [W]

As part of the Senedd Research Academic Fellowship Scheme, academics from Swansea University have looked at the importance of having a national way to measure and monitor the physical activity of children in Wales.

In March 2019, the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee of the National Assembly for Wales published their report ‘Physical Activity of Children and Young People’. The report included the findings and recommendations from their inquiry into the physical activity of children and young people in Wales.

The first recommendation was that there should be a framework for measuring physical activity and fitness of children and young people in a unified way.

The article, written by Dr Lucy Griffith and Professor Gareth Stratton, focuses on the need and justification of this recommendation.

It examines how active children and young people should be, how active children and young people currently are, current ways of measuring this activity and fitness and what should be done next.
