Extension of Integrated Family Support Services, 28/02/14 [W]

The Integrated Family Support Services programme (IFSS), which offers intensive support to families with complex needs, will be extended across the whole of Wales, the Welsh Government has announced.

Integrated Family Support Services offer intensive help to families as a whole unit, to try to keep them together. It is an early intervention programme aimed at families where parents have problems involving drugs or alcohol use, and children are at risk of being taken into care. It also helps with other problems such as domestic violence and mental health issues.

The voluntary sector works with health and social services to provide a joined-up intervention for the families involved.

Local Authorities in Anglesey, Conwy, Denbghshire and Gwynedd along with Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board, will now set up an IFSS. This means that every local authority in Wales has an IFSS.

You can find out more about the IFSS from the Welsh Government website.
