Draft Children’s Rights Scheme 2014, 14/01/14 [W]

The Welsh Government is currently seeking views on its revised draft Children’s Rights Scheme. Children in Wales is preparing a response to the consultation, and would like your input.

The scheme sets the arrangements that Welsh Ministers will have in place in order to ensure that they have due regard to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child when they exercise their functions. The scheme is made under the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011, which placed a duty on Ministers to have due regard to the UNCRC.
Since the Measure came into force the duty has only applied to Ministers when considering policy and legislation. However from May 2014 the duty will be extended to all their functions, and because of this the current Children’s Rights Scheme is being revised.

The consultation document is available to download at http://wales.gov.uk/consultations/childrenandyoungpeople/childrens-rights-scheme-2014/?lang=en

The consultation will end on 3 March 2014, so in order to prepare a response we’d be grateful if you could complete the following survey by 24 February.
