Children and Equality Training

This 1 or 2 day course aims to develop participants' understanding of the current policy agenda.  The early part of the course focuses on understanding the current policy and legal framework on equality, the later part of the course focuses upon children and young people as a discriminated group in their own right . The course will support individual practitioners' individual training needs and organisational change to deal with these issues more effectively. The course will use a range of legislative frameworks including relevant discrimination legislation , the Human Rights Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and also provides extensive course materials and a resources list.

By the end of the course:

  • practitioners will have a good knowledge of the current policy framework on age, sexuality, disability, 'race' ethnicity and language
  • practitioners will have a good knowledge of the process of 'childism' which helps explain discrimination towards children and young people
  • practitioners will have up to date  resources list  to support their learning in this area of practice
  • practitioners will have explored a range of practice areas in social care where discrimination exists and developed strategies to deal with discrimination as they find it in their day to day work.
