Enterprise and Learning Committee, 22/10/08 [W]

In its meeting of 22 October 2008, the Enterprise and Learning Committee took evidence as part of its pre-legislative scrutiny of the Proposed Draft (Legislative Competence) (Traffic Free Routes) Order 2009.

The Committee heard from representatives of the RNIB, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and Disability Wales.

Points made during discussion included:

  • the witnesses support both the need for the development and maintenance of pedestrian paths and the principle of safe routes for cyclists, but not their combined use;
  • people will avoid routes if they do not feel safe;
  • the organizations suggest having a link to disability and equality duties or the social model of disability so that what flows from the LCO will be linked into those policies.

For full details, please read the Committee transcript.
