Rural Development Sub-Committee, 09/07/08 [W]

In its meeting of 09 July 2008, the Rural Development Sub-Committee heard evidence from the Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Jane Hutt as part of its inquiry into provision of rural education in Wales and reorganisation of rural schools.

Points made during discussion included:

  • the Assembly circular on school organization proposals is currently being reviewed and the committee’s inquiry will be useful in this context
  • it is expected to go out for a 3-month consultation period before the start of the autumn term
  • it is important to make the link between the ways in which WAG develops links between the allocation of capital funding for schools and effective strategic planning for LAs in terms of planning school places.

For full details, please read the Committee transcript.
