Funding for Child Poverty Projects, 23/3/07 [W]

The Welsh Assembly Government is to contribute £106,135 to a pilot scheme aimed at providing advice and suggesting practical ways that local authorities can address child poverty. The pilot project, which will focus on two local authority areas, seeks to

  • Establish two local authority projects which will run for 18 months and help identify a range of positive actions to tackle child poverty at a local level;
  • Publish a local authority guide providing advice on how local authorities can use their powers to tackle child poverty;
  • Engage and support all Welsh councils to use their powers effectively and to mainstream child poverty issues across their subject portfolios.

The application for funding was made by Save the Children, in partnership with Barnardo’s Cymru and National Children’s Homes Cymru and on behalf of the End Child Poverty Network Cymru.  It is also supported financially by the Welsh Local Government Association.
