Foreign Office figures for April 2009-March 2010 show an increase in the number of children abducted by a parent, with a 39% increase of abductions to countries not signed up to the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
Foreign Office research showed that a third of people didn’t know that if you take your child abroad without the permission of the other parent, this may be considered abduction under UK law.
