The Queen’s Speech, 25/05/10 [W/E/NI/S]

The Queen's Speech outlining the bills for the new session of Parliament was made on 25th May 2010.

Bills of particular relevance to children and young people in Wales include:

Welfare Reform Bill: This Bill aims to simplify the benefits system.

Police Reform and Social Responsibility Bill: This Bill aims to make the police service more accountable to local people, create a dedicated Border Police Force and set out measures to tackle alcohol-related violence and disorder.

Freedom (Great Repeal) Bill: The main elements of this Bill include extending the scope of the Freedom of Information Act, adopting the protections of the Scottish model for the DNA database and further regulation of CCTV.

Public Bodies (Reform) Bill: This Bill will provide Ministers with the powers to abolish, merge or transfer functions.

National Insurance Contributions Bill: The purpose of the Bill is to increase rates of National Insurance Contributions (NICs) from April 2011.
