ENGAGE Scheme for young people in South West Wales, 12/11/09 [W]

A new £32 million scheme for young people at risk of falling out of school or further education studies has been announced by Deputy Minister for Skills, John Griffiths.

The ENGAGE Local Authority and Further Education initiative will target 14-16-year-olds who are facing difficulties such as underachievement or absenteeism, and 16-19 year olds who are already in college but are at risk of dropping out.

The scheme, led by Neath Port Talbot Council in collaboration with Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire Council, will use techniques such as mentoring and coaching, community based activities, sports and emotional intelligence support provided by specialised trainers to re-engage young people and boost confidence.

Further information is available on the Welsh Assembly Government website.
