New Assembly Measure on Special Educational Needs, 28/04/09 [W]

The Proposed Education (Wales) Measure has been laid before the National Assembly for Wales.

The Measure will provide rights for children and young people to make special educational needs (SEN) appeals and claims of disability discrimination to the SEN Tribunal for Wales.

There will be an initial pilot phase in specified areas, and subsequently children across Wales will be given the right to appeal and claim to the tribunal.

The Measure also places a new duty on Local Education Authorities to provide access to independent advocacy services that can listen to, and give voice to, children’s views and concerns.

The full Measure is available on the National Assembly for Wales website.
