The Welsh Assembly Government is marking the International Day for Disabled People by holding a full day of celebratory events in the Senedd and Ty Hywel in Cardiff Bay.

One event is being organised by Learning Disability Wales when members of the Young Disabled People's Network, facilitated by Children in Wales, will be given the opportunity to put questions to the First Minister, Rhodri Morgan and the Minister for Children, Education Lifelong Learning and Skills, Jane Hutt. The questions will be centered on the seven aims of the Disabled Children Matter Wales Campaign:

• The right information at the right time
• A real choice of quality education
• The health services they need to lead an ordinary life
• Full access to play and leisure activities
• A real say in planning the services they receive
• Full access to community facilities
• Enough money to live on

They will include a question from one young person on careers advice for young disabled people and another on independent living and having enough money to live on.

Following this event, the young disabled people will have an informal meeting with the Task Group which is attended by representatives of the Disabled Children Matter Wales Campaign and senior civil servants and was set up by the Minister for Children earlier this year.  The young people will give a short presentation on the current aims for the Campaign:

• More things to do and places to go
• More short breaks
• Better access to community facilities - youth clubs etc
• Support to apply for disability related benefits.

This will enable the Task Group to hear directly from young disabled people about the issues which affect them and will hopefully help direct future planning for the development of services for disabled children and young people.
