Child Poverty Legislation Planned, 23/09/08 [W/E/NI/S]

The Prime Minister has said the UK Government will enshrine in law the target of abolishing child poverty by 2020.

In his speech to Labour Party conference in Manchester on Tuesday, the Prime Minister set out a range of measures to reduce inequalities and improve social mobility.

Gordon Brown said the government had taken action to lift 250,000 children out of poverty this year and that while economic times are hard his party was determined to end child poverty.
