Voting Age (Reduction) Bill [E/W/S/NI]

This is a private members bill introduced into the House of Commons on 5 December 2007 by Julie Morgan MP.

The bill would reduce the voting age for parliamentary and other elections to 16 years.

It had its second reading in the House of Commons on the 6 June 2008, but opponents used parliamentary procedure that states that if a private Bill is still being debated at the five-hour mark, then it goes to the back of the queue, effectively ending its chances of becoming law.

Further information is available on Parliament’s website.
