Youth Alcohol Action Plan, 02/06/08 [W/E]

The UK Government has published a document which sets out the action which will be taken forward to address the problems arising from young people’s alcohol consumption.

The document contains a number of action points relevant to Wales, in particular those referring to issues of law and order. This includes the UK Government’s intention to legislate, subject to the approval of Parliament, to make it an offence for under-18s to persistently possess alcohol in a public place and to ensure the police have the enforcement powers they need to tackle drinking by young people in public places.

The Action Plan can be downloaded from the Department for Children, Schools and Families website.

The Welsh Assembly Government recently consulted on its own substance misuse strategy, ‘Working Together to Reduce Harm’ that set out the action it intends to take to reduce the harm caused to individuals and families by the misuse of drugs and alcohol.
