‘Appetite for Life’ Action Plan, 22/11/07 [W]

Education Minister Jane Hutt has launched the Welsh Assembly Government’s Appetite for Life Action Plan which sets out the strategic direction and actions required to improve nutritional standards of food and drink in schools in Wales.

The Action Plan focuses on seven key priority areas for taking forward the food in schools agenda.

  • Action 1 – Introduce and implement new nutrient, food and drink based standards
  • Action 2 – Develop and utilise catering staff and equipment to maximum effect to support the delivery of change
  • Action 3 – Support schools in developing a whole school approach to food and nutrition
  • Action 4 – develop and implement marketing and communication strategies that will support deliver of Appetite for Life at a local and national level
  • Action 5 – embed sustainable development principles into the procurement of goods and services related to the delivery of Appetite for Life
  • Action 6 – Informing decisions on financial investment
  • Action 7 – Review, develop and establish monitoring and evaluation programmes to support the whole school approach to improving food and nutrition in schools
