Students in Higher Education Institutions, 2008/09, 10/02/10 [W]

The latest National Statistics on students enrolled at Welsh Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Welsh domiciled students enrolled at HEIs throughout the UK in the academic year 2008/09.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • There were 126,475 HE Student enrolments at Welsh HEIs, 1 per cent higher than 2007/08. 36 per cent of enrolments were part-time.
  • There were 102,395 Welsh domiciled HE student enrolments at UK HEIs, less than a 1 percent increase from 2007/08. 43 per cent of enrolments were part-time.
  • 34,645 higher education qualifications were obtained at Welsh HEIs.
  • 25,575 higher education qualifications were obtained by Welsh domiciled students at UK HEIs.
  • Since 2001/02 the proportion of Welsh domiciled students studying in Wales has increased from 62 per cent to 68 per cent (66 per cent in 2007/08). Similarly the proportion of UK domiciled students at Welsh HEIs who are from Wales has increased from 55 per cent to 59 per cent (57 per cent in 2007/08).
