Analysis of Participation in post-16 Education and Training, 2006/07, 29/10/08 [W]

The Participation in post-16 Education and Training bulletin provides data about national and regional participation by Welsh domiciled learners (excluding learners at Higher Education level) enrolled during the 2006/07 academic year.

Key points from the bulletin are:

  • There were significant geographic variations in post-16 participation in 2006/07.
  • The unitary authorities with the highest post-16 learner standard participation rates were Flintshire, Neath Port Talbot and Denbighshire.
  • The unitary authorities with the lowest post-16 learner standard participation rates were Monmouthshire, Powys and Ceredigion.
  • There were clear geographic differences in areas of high and low standardised participation between the male and female cohorts. However, nationally the overall level of participation was higher in the female post-16 learner cohort.
  • The overall participation rate was highest in the under 20 learner cohort. This can be attributed to the natural progression of learners from compulsory education into school sixth forms, further education institutions and work-based learning.
