National Curriculum Assessments of 7, 11 and 14 Year Olds, 2008, 01/09/2008 [W]

The latest National Statistics on National Curriculum Assessments of 7, 11 and 14 year olds for Wales 2008.

The key points for 2008 are:

Key Stage 1 - 7 year olds

  • The percentage of pupils achieving at least the expected level was higher for all subjects when compared to 2007 apart from Mathematics, and higher by at least 1 percentage point for each subject than in 1999.

Key Stage 2 - 11 year olds

  • The percentage of pupils achieving at least the expected level in teacher assessments was higher for all subjects when compared to 2007, and higher by at least 10 percentage points for each subject than they were in 1999.

Key Stage 3 - 14 year olds

  • The percentage of pupils achieving at least the expected level in teacher assessments was higher in all subjects apart from Welsh than in 2007;
  • With the exception of Welsh, which has risen 1 percentage point compare to 1999, all other  subjects are at least 7 percentage points higher than they were in 1999;

Gender differences

  • Girls outperform boys in each core subject and key stage.
