Proposed Provision of Mental Health Services LCO Committee Report, 20/06/08 [W]

The Proposed Provision of Mental Health Services LCO Committee has published its report on the Order proposed by Jonathan Morgan AM.

The report intends to inform the introduction of the draft Order and the Assembly’s debate on it. The proposed Order relates to mental health legislation reform. It will enshrine in law specific patient rights including:

  • a right to assessment and treatment in a therapeutic setting before compulsion becomes the only safe option, and;
  • a right for patients to receive independent advocacy

Recommendation 5 of the report says that the Committee is satisfied that where the proposed Order refers to "persons" with mental disorders, it would encompass duties and services in relation to children and young people.

The report can be downloaded from the National Assembly for Wales website.
