Wales Audit Office report on Maternity Services, 19/06/09 [W]

A report by the Wales Audit Office has found that maternity care is generally meeting an appropriate standard but there are unacceptable differences across Wales.

The report highlights some specific problems including the way that labour is managed in some trusts and dissatisfaction with support for infant feeding. A survey of new mothers showed that although many were satisfied with their experience, a significant minority felt they were not always treated with dignity and respect or kindness and understanding.

The report calls for the Welsh Assembly Government to develop an overall strategy for maternity services in Wales.

The report is available to download from the Wales Audit Office website.
