Children: Innocent until proven guilty?, 17/07/09 [W/E]

The Prison Reform Trust has published a briefing on the use of remand for children in England and Wales.

The report says that in the last seven years the number of children locked up in remand has increased by 41 per cent, and that three quarters of under-18s who are refused bail will later be either cleared at trial or given community sentences.

The Prison Reform Trust is calling for a Ministerial review of the system.

The report is available to download from the Prison Reform Trust website.
