Fine art or science? Sentencers deciding between community penalties and custody for young people, 15/06/09 [W/E]

The Youth Justice Board (YJB) has published the findings from a study of sentencing decisions made by courts. It looks at the reasons why some young people are sentenced to custody and others to community sentences.

Recommendations in the report include prioritising the production of new guidance to help reduce the sentencing variation betweens courts.

The report, and a summary version, are available to download from the YJB website.
