Unhealthy Lives, 27/08/08 [W/E/NI/S]

Ill health is one of the worst effects that poverty can have on a child’s life in the UK, according to a report published by the Campaign to End Child Poverty.

The report found that children in disadvantaged families, compared to those in well-off families, are:

  • Ten times more likely to die suddenly in infancy;
  • Two and a half times more likely to suffer chronic illness as toddlers;
  • Twice as likely to have cerebral palsy;
  • Three times as likely to suffer mental disorders.

The report can be downloaded from the Campaign to End Child Poverty website.
