The Right to Choose: Multi-agency statutory guidance for dealing with forced marriage, 01/05/09 [W/E]

This guidance is given to all persons and bodies in England and Wales who exercise public functions in relation to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Such persons and bodies include schools, local authorities, police authorities and chief officers of police and youth offending teams.

In forced marriages, one or both spouses do not (or, in the case of some vulnerable adults, cannot) consent to the marriage and duress is involved. Duress can include physical, psychological, financial, sexual and emotional pressure.

The guidance is available to download from the Welsh Assembly Government website.
