Consultation on the future of tobacco control, 04/06/08 [W/E]

Consultation ends: 08/09/08

The UK Department of Health is consulting on the next steps in tobacco control.

The consultation covers five broad topic areas:

  • protecting young people from tobacco;
  • supporting smokers to quit;
  • supporting smokers who cannot quit;
  • health inequalities; and
  • tackling the availability of illicit tobacco.

Responses will help to inform the development of a UK government tobacco control strategy later in the year.

The consultation document mainly relates to England. However, Welsh stakeholders are invited to comment on two non-devolved issues: proposals relating to further controls on display of tobacco products at the point of sale, and proposals for controls on cigarette vending machines.

The consultation document can be downloaded from the Department of Health website.
