Draft all Wales obesity pathway, 28/1/2010 [W]

Consultation ends: 28/04/2010

The Welsh Assembly Government has issued this draft all Wales obesity pathway for consultation. It has been produced further to evidence showing the proportion of adults and children who are not maintaining a healthy body weight is increasing. The Millennium Cohort Survey found that 22% of Welsh children aged three were overweight and just over 5% were obese.

The Pathway is intended as a tool for health boards to:

  • review local policies, services and cross-departmental multi-agency activity for children and adults;
  • and develop a full implementation plan to ensure they have planned activity across the full range of determinants which cause obesity and overweight.

The pathway contains four levels:

Level 1 – Community based prevention and early intervention (self care)
Level 2 – Community and primary care weight management services
Level 3 – Specialist multi disciplinary team weight management services
Level 4- Specialist medical and surgical services (including bariatric surgery)

The consultation and feedback form are available on the Welsh Assembly Government’s website.
